About William Hathaway

I started as a multimedia journalist in 2006 and spent a few years interning with National Geographic and managing one of their social media channels. That led to an assignment with The Yacht Week in 2011, shortly after graduating from the University of Maryland with a degree in environmental studies.I have been working as a professional mariner and environmental educator, with stints as an NPS ranger and most recently as a marketing and outreach manager (and sometimes captain) for Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership in Penobscot Bay, Maine.I hold a 100 ton USCG Master's license and I still shoot photos and write freelance when I get the chance, some of my work for has ended up in Maine the Way, The Maine Monitor, Forbes and Classic Boat magazine.
