CurrentI believe that role of public education goes well beyond the preparation of young people to fit into roles in our society. As the Competencies imply, Public Education must produce citizens who are engaged, risk takers, with critical thinking and problem solving skills that will not only allow them to participate fully in the economy, but also contribute effectively in social change. The task of shaping the future falls on our youth, we must endeavor to prepare them to solve problems, address issues and build relationships where our generation has failed. As education is the process by which society replicates itself, society cannot survive if it does not also grow and develop further. A society, like any other organism stagnates and declines when it fails to develop. As educators we do not hold a beating heart in our hands, nor do we send people into the heavens, what we do is shape the future of who we are.In such a vision it becomes essential that the learner, their families, and local stakeholders are actively engaged in the school community. For each party their dreams, their hopes and their vision must be reflected in the daily life of the school. All Students need to be embraced as valuable community members regardless of ethnicity social background or gender orientation, if such students are to become engaged citizens in their lifetime. Parents need to be listened to, understood and supported if their children are to embraced their role in the community. Community Stakeholders, especially those working towards improved social outcome hold important answers; they must be given the support and flexibility to contribute fully to the school community.
