For more than 30 years, I have counseled some of the nation’s leading companies in various industries on environmental issues in disputes and transactional matters. My clients include retail, transportation, real estate, manufacturing, food service, pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, as well as government agencies.Currently an environmental partner at leading law firm Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP in New York City, I have extensive experience guiding clients through complex environmental compliance activities, and assisting in all interactions with environmental regulators, when needed. I also have deep expertise in brownfield cleanup and redevelopment, providing turnkey and practical counsel to complete the most challenging projects. Working with stakeholders, I develop nontraditional approaches to address contaminated property, facilitating property restoration, redevelopment, and sale. Clients turn to me for advice on environmental aspects of land transfers and on issues arising out of other real estate and corporate transactions, including environmental due diligence, risk evaluation, and mitigation of environmental liabilities.With broad technical understanding, I regularly partner with consultants and other experts, overseeing internal environmental investigations and audits and evaluating clients’ disclosure and voluntary compliance strategies - often in an effort to eliminate civil and criminal penalties by self-reporting. Together we have successfully designed and implemented corporate environmental management systems, supply chain greening, sustainability models, and other ESG-supporting methodologies. Companies rely on me to create programs for environmental training, emergency response and day-to-day compliance operations.I frequently represent clients in federal and state courts and in administrative actions, advising on enforcement, creditor and debtor’s rights in bankruptcy, cost recovery, Superfund, and other permitting and compliance-related matters. These matters involve counseling clients on compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws and rules, such as those regulating hazardous substance and hazardous waste handling, transport, storage, treatment and disposal; asbestos abatement; pesticide regulation; clean water and clean air matters; and disclosure obligations.My work on behalf of clients has earned me numerous industry awards, including being named a BTI “Client Service All-Star,” recognition in Chambers USA Guide, and inclusion on City & State New York’s 2019 “The Responsible 100” list.
