Pubmission is a submissions hub for writers and publishing professionals. It streamlines the submissions process and makes it easier for publishers to find the writers who match up with them best. Writers can upload their submissions just once and send them out to the publisher members they like best.

At Lark Books, I oversaw the development and production of 10 to 20 four-color children’s books per season. Title categories included cooking, art, science fairs, puzzle books in graphic-novel format, picture books, board books, science and nature, crafts, and more. I supervised two editors and an editorial assistant. I also created schedules and budgets for every book on our list, created FileMaker databases to track all aspects of every project, and trained my staff on the editorial process—teaching them how to do a proper developmental edit, how to work with authors on revisions and copyedits, and how to coordinate their projects with art directors, illustrators, and photographers throughout the production stage. I also produced marketing copy for our sales department and wrote cover copy for all of our books.

Tasks Included: Editing and updating Internet-based travel guides for nearly every city and country in the world. Writing a 125+ page web-based travel-agent seminar for the Austrian Tourist Office. Writing a number of travel and news-based articles, sales letters, and other marketing materials. Updating daily global risk assessments and serving as a senior news editor for a news alert product issued to travelers around the world. Assisting with the development of a new consumer-based travel website.

At Carson-Dellosa, a publisher of supplemental educational materials, I studied the needs and interests of teachers. I attended workshops and visited classrooms. I analyzed the competition and advised our publisher on how to boost the benefits of our products to better accommodate our customers. As an acquisitions editor, not only did I form lasting relationships with quality authors, but also offered guidance and assistance to other editors on our staff as I oversaw the completion of projects from start to finish. I provided legal support as well, advising company executives on a variety of intellectual property issues. Most rewarding were the opportunities I had to write teacher workbooks, children’s storybooks, brochures, submission guidelines, marketing proposals and catalog copy.
