Manage and oversee end-to-end engineering work for AFL's line of Fiber-Optic products in Singapore office. The work-scope includes early-stage/front-end development, product design, check & optimization, integration, industrialization, life-cycle management/sustaining engineering

Beginning of 2019, I was appointed as Team Leader for Thermo-Mech Group, reporting to the Director for Advanced Dev. My role as a Team Leader involves leading a team (currently comprising of 8 engineers). This include taking overall charge of the thermo-mech design and dev. work, creating technology and component roadmaps in-line with product architecture platform strategies, driving product innovation, generating patents, managing team resource & capability, competence build-up, dev. & growth of the assigned engineers etc.In parallel, I continue to handle my individual Thermo-mech design/development work commitments as a Principal Engineer in various Advanced Dev., Product Launch and Lifecycle sustaining projects.

I joined Philips as a Principal Engineer in the Thermo-Mech Development team, where I got involved in the product development work for Philips range of high-volume/mass manufactured consumer devices. My scope of work include areas such as component design & selection, fluid-flow system design, thermal heat management, temperature sensing & control, steam generation etc.. I am conversant with commonly used product development processes and methodologies (e.g. V-model, Design for Six-Sigma etc). In addition, I supported Life-cycle & Sustaining activities including continuous improvement, DfX projects, failure investigations etc. My work also requires me to work closely with other functions such as Electrical & Electronics, Quality, Process, NPI, Commercial Marketing, Procurement etc.

Beginning of 2016, I was appointed as Mechanical Lead for the then-newly-formed Technik2 (Special Projects Unit), where I was in charge for providing technical and managerial oversight to the Mech Design Engineering team (comprising of up to 9 Mech engineeers) in this business unit. This includes being responsible for their career development as well as personal growth through various initiatives (e.g. mentorship arrangements, performance appraisals). In addition, I also spearheaded and managed an in-house technical training programme for the company's Mech. Engineers, Technicians & Interns.In addition to this appointment, I continue to take on Design and System engineering roles in various projects, and I work with Project Managers to ensure that timelines and budget are met, as well as maintaining synergy with other disciplines (Software & Electrical/Electronics). I also conduct frequent design reviews with stakeholders to ensure that the design meets the necessary project requirements.

As a mechanical design engineer, my role involved carrying out engineering design work for various application (e.g. aerospace/automotive/industrial automation). During my stay in HOPE, I have risen through the ranks from Engineer, to Senior Engineer, to Specialist Engineer (equivalent to an Associate-Principal or Staff Engineer).I am familiar with Design, Fabrication and Integration of Electro-Mechanical Systems. I also specialise in structural design and load analysis, and I am competent in the use of Solidworks Finite Element Analysis Software.Quick Prototyping is one of my key strengths, thanks to the extremely fast-paced environment which I worked in. I have designed and delivered over 200 different mechanical parts, and at least 40 mechanical assemblies/sub-assemblies.I have particular interest in the field of aerostructures, and I also possess technical competency and hands-on experience in the building of composite structures. I am familiar with the concept of composite lay-up and ply patterns. I have also worked with various composite fabrication and manufacturing techniques (e.g. conventional vacuum bagged lay-up, prepreg, resin-infusion, autoclave curing), as well as plug and mold design/construction.My other areas of engineering experience includes mechanical power transmission and propulsion systems. I am familiar with designing and construction of engine/propeller test stands for evaluation of aircraft propeller static thrust performance.

During my 2 month stint as a Assistant Engineer in DSO, I had the opportunity to work on the area of UAV composite aerostructures. I gained hands-on experience in the areas of Structural load testing (e.g. installing strain gauges and load cells, design of testing jigs and fixtures, load application using hydraulics and conventional weights etc.) as well as Vibration testing (e.g. usage of Vibration shakers to excite structure for Modal testing, mounting of accelerometers and setup of Data Acqusition units etc.). I also participated in the design of UAV landing gear drop testing jigs.

I worked in ST Aerospace for a period of 3 years. My responsibility lay mainly in providing engineering support to aerospace component Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) operations. This includes handling audits for crucial certifications/approvals (e.g. CAAS, EASA, FAA, AS9100), initiating new repair/overhaul capability setups, as well as spearheading continuous improvement projects (e.g KAIZEN)During my tenure at ST Aerospace, I had the opportunity to work on aircraft propellers used on various heavy lift turbo-prop aircraft (e.g. Hercules C-130 & Fokker 50) as well as General Aviation types (e.g. Hartzell, Sensenich). I am familiar with hydraulic-actuated propeller systems (constant speed/variable pitch) as well as the related accessories. I have also worked on helicopter gearbox mechanical power transmission systems used on both civilian and military platforms (e.g. Chinook, Eurocopter Super Puma etc). I also supported the NDT operations, which are key backbones to the proper functioning of any aerospace MRO organizations. As such, I am familiar with NDT Standards (FPI, MPI etc) used commonly for aerospace applications. My work experience also extends to the areas of Painting and Composite Repair.One of the key projects I handled include relocation of the company's propeller MRO facilities to a new premise. I was also involved with setting up of the Boeing B737NG Landing Gear MRO capability for the company.In summary, my tenure at ST Aerospace has given me a very extensive exposure to a wide aerospace & aircraft component/product group, as well as a deep insight to the Aerospace MRO industry.
