About Lai Cheng Wong
Lai Cheng Wong is a Senior Manager based at SEAMEO RECSAM (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization - Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics) since 2009. In this capacity, she supports SEAMEO’s capacity building initiatives for teachers and promotes international & regional cooperation in education for sustainable in the SEAMEO region. She also actively contributes to the development of media and information literacy globally through her speaking, consulting and publishing work. In 2020, she co-founded the Media and Information Literacy for ASEAN Network, a network established with the funding support from the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur and Penang Institute that aims to equip educators with media and information literacy (MIL) competencies and to equip citizens to become critical media and information consumers.The Network was awarded the TechCamp Global grant in 2020, and the U.S. Department of State Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) Awards in 2022, and subsequently the prestigious Global Media and Information Literacy Awards supported by UNESCO in 2023. The YSEALI Women's Leadership Academy backed by the U.S. Mission to ASEAN and Wedu in 2018, featured Wong as one of the young leader in the network for her work and contribution in promoting education for sustainable development in the region.She has received numerous recognition as reflections of her achievements such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Young Leaders Programme, the YSEALI-U.S. Department of State Professional Fellowship, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Executive Education and Australia Awards Aus4ASEAN scholarships.Wong is currently researching for her PhD in USM. Her research focuses on digital media literacy competencies and digital & media literacy education public policies. A proud mother to a 7-year-old, a foodie, and an avid traveller, Wong likes to call herself a productive juggler.
