In 1997 he sold the business to Northern Foods and moved into early-stage investing.• To support young entrepreneurs, Oliver created and runs a course for 16-17 year on how to successfully start a business. Entrepreneurship is a real career choice these days, so if a child doesn't want to become a lawyer, accountant or doctor, this 6 week course helps them to understand the pleasures and pitfalls of starting a business (Course name: "The Jungle or the Zoo")• Oliver is married and lives in Putney, South London where he bakes his own sourdough and keeps wicket for the local cricket team whilst still trying to beat his two grown-up sons at Padel.BackgroundOliver was on a hill in Rajasthan overlooking the pilgrimage town of Pushkar when it struck him that he didn’t want to be an accountant after university as planned and instead opened a sandwich shop in Central London. Eventually this became three shops, a healthfood store and catering kitchens providing up to 5,000 lunches per day ("Woolleys Healthfoods"). In addition, working with his brother, he opened a chain of speciality sausage shops in Tunbridge Wells, East Grinstead and Lewes ("Hugo Oliver Sausages"). The Company produced a tonne of sausages a week and supplied numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in London and the South-east .and supplied Harrods with all their sausages The company was sold to Northern Foods in 1997.
