Wouter has a unique background with 15+ years’ experience in anesthesiology and critical care medicine in a 1000+ bed supraregional hospital. He holds a proven track record in academic science, virtual care health models, change management and strategic alignment. In 2016, he defended his dissertation on outcome of ICU patients and became a doctor in biomedical sciences. Building on that expertise, several AI and machine learning research projects were set up between the anesthesia-intensive care department and KULeuven-KULAK University. They address the development of predictive models in critical care eventually leading to decision support tools. Wouter is now copromotor of several PhD dissertations. During the past 8 years he was the medical head of the ICU department. With an engaged leadership style and together with the management team he carried a thorough restructuring: merging three teams to one group with a shared vision, full digital transition of the unit, a strong multidisciplinary approach and an increase in operational beds. With a strong interest in digitalisation and with an in-depth knowledge of the clinical needs, Wouter hovers at the interface between medical science and digital technology, promoting hybrid care health models. He focuses on business strategy and change management, innovation and digital transition.Wouter holds a MSc degree in medical sciences from the University of Ghent, a MSc degree in anaesthesiology and intensive care from the University of Ghent and a PhD in biomedical sciences from the university of Ghent. In 2022 he attended the course “Digital Strategy” at Vlerick Management School - Brussels.
