During this internship I investigated the use of procedural generation (creating data algorithmically) for training deep learning models for automated classification and segmentation purposes in medical imaging. This was focused on peripheral blood smears. I initiated this project myself and worked on it independently. During the internship I frequently reported my progress to my supervisors.

During this internship I investigated patterns of healthy genomic variation within human, using a large genomic reference dataset of the Exome Aggregation Consortium (ExAC). This contains exome sequencing data of 60706 individuals. Although this work did not lead to a publication I was able to familiarize myself with programming in the Python programming language. Also, I was able to familiarize myself with various machine learning techniques, including convolutional neural networks (CNNs). This eventually lead to a second internship.
