The Guided Surgery Center of Nobel Biocare is located in Mechelen. In this department we develop innovative software solutions for guided implant surgery and diagnostics.As project manager I plan, coordinate and steer the projects executed in our group. These projects include software design, early prototyping, development and software testing.

The Guided Surgery Center of Nobel Biocare is located in Mechelen. In this department we develop innovative software solutions to guide dental surgery. As product owner I steer the design and development process. Besides these activities I coordinate the reserach group and maintain relationships with external partners.

Medicim develops innovative solutions based on medical imaging to support diagnosis therapy and surgery. To maintain innovativity, and to push it to even higher levels, Medicim importantly invests in applied R&D activities.At this moment our main research activities focuss on 3D computer aided systems for orthognathic and dento-facial surgical planning.

Maxillofacial surgery treats abnormalities of the skeleton of the head and triesto improve the patient’s aesthetics. In this field there is a huge demand from the surgeons to be able to pre-operatively predict the patient’s post-operative facial outlook. Besides the big interest for the surgeons during surgical planning, this prediction is an essential tool to improve the communication between surgeon and patient. In my doctoral thesis different computational models, which allow imitation of the elastic biomechanical behaviour of facial soft tissues, are studied. This comparison, enabled the implementation of a complete planning system which allows fast and accurate pre-operative prediction of the expected post-operative facial outlook.
