Master Thesis StudentFormula Group T Jul 2012 - Jun 2013LeuvenPaper title: Design of a Predictive Launch Control for an Electric Formula Student Car: Kalman Filter Tyre-Road Condition Estimation and Adaptive Slip ControlAbstract: This paper presents the development of a predictive launch control algorithm. This longitudinal traction control system assures a car to accelerate as fast as possible. The algorithm is designed for the newest electric Formula Student car of Formula Group T. We developed the launch control algorithm and applied it on the first electric car of Formula Group T. An experimentally validated drivetrain model and a wheel speed measurement system is used to estimate the tyre-road conditions. A slip-based method is used to estimate the maximum tyre-road friction during acceleration. The used tyre model is Pacejka Magic Formula, whose parameters are estimated by an extended Kalman filter. The objective, which is supported by simulations, is to reduce the acceleration time at the Formula Student events by more than 10%.

I was active in the management of the team and made decisions about project planning and the targets of the team.Coordinating role:• Managing the planning of the energy department (5 team members): setting up the planning and follow up the work• Organizing and leading meetings• Being part of the management: discuss the planning, budgets and goals of the team• Being a contact person for many important partnersTechnical responsibilities:• Maintaining an overview of the overall drivetrain design of our first car (Areion): accumulator, drivetrain, transmission and electronics• Design of the electric drivetrain: motor choice and determination of the gear ratio (done by simulations) and the electrical wye-delta switching system• Responsible for the realisation of the drivetrain parts during the assembly of the car• Setting up an FMEA for the whole electric drivetrain
