Utrecht Area, Netherlands
I do research on the intersection of statistics / machine learning, causal inference and health care (mainly cancer related). My main interest is how we can use data to make better health care decisions.Additional interests are dealing with high-dimensional unstructured data (image analysis), missing data, censoring (survival analysis) and probabilistic modeling.Supervisors: Pim de Jong (UMCU), Tim Leiner (UMCU), Joost Verhoeff (UMCU)Funding: the Alexandre Suerman Stipend MD/PhD-program
New York City Metropolitan Area
I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to work with Dr. Rajesh Ranganath from New York University on some methodological aspects of my main PhD project: Individual treatment effect estimation for lung cancer patients. It was quite the experience to live and work in New York City, even for this short time, and a very inspiring time for me. Luckily, Rajesh and I are still collaborating.Funding was provided by "Stichting Drie Lichten", "Stichting Girard De Mielet van Coehoorn" and the Radiology department of the UMC Utrecht
Greater Boston Area
I joined the Computational Imaging and Bioinformatics lab at DFCI-Harvard Medical School for a 3-month research in internship. Main goal: diagnose lung cancer on screening CT-scans with 'Radiomics' (Artificial Intelligence), and reduce unnecessary diagnostic procedures.
During my undergraduate in Medicine I did research at the anatomy department. The goal was to identify and label nerves in the proximity of the renal artery. During this period I learned many skills, ranging from anatomic dissection, lab work, microscopy, digital image analysis (I designed a semi-automated analysis pipeline) to statistical data analysis. This resulted in my first peer-review publication
I am very grateful that I've had the opportunity to follow the post-graduate epidemiology master, alongside of my PhD. This study has.
