We developed a synthetic route towards enantiopure, highly functionalized 2-imidazolines. With the use of a chiral auxiliary we were able to synthesize chiral isocyanides that we cyclized to obtain the desired 2-imidazolines in quantitative yield and >99% ee. Student assistant during first and second year practical course organic chemistry (bachelor).

We cross-linked new epoxides that were synthesized in Delft with amines that are available on bulk scale. With differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) we were able to monitor the curing process and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) gave us the weight loss upon heating. We tested the mechanical properties with DMTA and also compression testing and solvent-resisting tests were performed.

In cooperation with Boeing we synthesized novel monomers that were used to synthesize novel resins for structural aerospace applications.

We synthesized new monomers and polymers for fiber spinning applications in cooperation with Teijin Aramid.
