Molenaar In Opleiding (Mio)
CurrentA miller (in various dialects and also called mulder in Dutch) is someone who works with a mill. Nowadays a miller usually works as a volunteer at a polder mill, corn mill, sawmill or oil mill. There are still a few professional millers in the Netherlands and Flanders. In December 2017, the typical Dutch profession of miller was added to UNESCO's international list of intangible cultural heritage.[1]The craft of a miller has many facets: he not only understands the business he carries out, for example grinding grain, but also has to understand the weather. He must know the cloud shapes well to know when he can still make the windmill turn responsibly. If the mill runs wild in too strong winds, there is a risk that the mill will catch fire. In the past, a miller lost his source of income for a long time.In addition to grinding grain and dealing with the vagaries of the weather, a grain miller must be able to sharpen the millstones properly. That is something that is regularly needed to get a good product.
