By being involved in different European projects, he implements all best practices on using information technology in the area. As manager of the project ‘Opening Up’, he is actively involved in the implementation of social media projects and the adoption of open data for local governments. For Wouter, Open Data forms a basis for involved citizens and a true transparent government.

Wouter Degadt, Coordinator e-Government by Intercommunal Leiedal, Kortrijk. He started as a staff member of e-Government. He is responsible for multiple European projects and innovation in digital service delivery for local governments in South-West Flanders. He now holds the position of coordinator e-Government and manages a team for web and front-end development, system administration, information management and GIS analysis.He is an ambassador of Open Belgium at the Open Knowledge Foundation. As the project manager of the European project Opening Up, Wouter was acknowledged for the results on the topic of Open Data for local governments by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. Previously, for five years Wouter performed academic research for the scientific institute Studies on Media, Information and Telecommunication connected to iMinds and the Free University of Brussels. Wouter developed an expertise in business model generation for innovative companies in a market transition and innovative communication technologies.
