About Wouter Notenbomer

Creativity, imagination and an innovative attitude are essential skills for an engineer to come to a good solution for design problems and eventually beautiful buildings. Trained as building science engineer (and architect) with a strong interest in computational design and sustainable development.Every project I've worked on, whether it be the building scale iMac, a new faculty building for the TU Delft, a new design for a regional hospital or the renovation of museum Boijmans van Beuningen, it all started with imagination and creativity to solve complicated design challenges. My drive and ambition is to make the digital way of working in the construction industry common, to make it more resilient to the great ambition that lies ahead. Working smarter, faster and more efficient is necessary if we want to make our industry Paris-proof and this can only be achieved when we combine our human intellect with the right digital tools.Passionate about parametric and generative design, especially when it's combined with building science. Experience working with Rhino and Grasshopper.

    Sbrcurnet May 2011 - Aug 2017
    Rotterdam Area, Netherlands
As building physics engineer I was responsible for the CAD drawings and the thermal calculations of hundreds of Referentiedetails, published as a reference publication with standard building joints as used by architects, engineers and construction managers for the development of housing and public building. After several years I was promoted to project manager building physics for the further development of the 'SBR Referentiedetails', responsible for the quality checks and the correct use of the applicable legislation on the Referentiedetails.Guided the transition of the Referentiedetails from 2D CAD drawings to 3D BIM objects. By doing this, we managed to halve the development time of each building joint in the calculation phase.During that time, BIM became more and more a common way of working in the Netherlands. Because of my passion for digitalisation and my belief that processes can be more simple, smarter and more fun, I became a specialist in BIM standards like IFC, NLCS and NL-SfB. Therefor I was assigned as project manager for several BIM standards in the Netherlands:- Project manager NLCS (Dutch CAD standard for 2D civil works)- Project manager 'Culture' for the Dutch Building Information Council- Treasurer of buildingSMART BeneluxI was also asked as BIM consultant for several clients, like:- Schiphol Airport- Municipality of Rotterdam- Construction company Bouwbedrijf de Nijs- Arcadis Nederland- Provence of Gelderland
