Collaborator to the ESA (European Space Agency) Black Water Treatment Breadboard. This project is part of the ESA MELiSSA (Micro-Ecological Life Support System Alternative) loop. Project description see below.As project engineer I was the one primarily responsible for the design and operation of pilot scale systems that contained anaerobic membrane and nitrifying fixed-bed reactors. This included:- construction of a database that includes all the necessary system and safety requirements - design and sizing of the system (including P&ID and 3D models)- instrumentation trade-off and purchasing equipment (for a budget of +/- 150 kEUR)- assembly and automation of the system (based on National Instruments hardware and software)- testing the system and validate the defined requirementsFurthermore I was also responsible for or involved in:- communication and presenting results to our customer (ESA) and project partners- communication with our industrial partners- writing technical documents- leading internal meetingsWithin this project I worked independently but closely together with a small team of academic and supporting staff. Next to this project I was involved in some other smaller projects and in the daily guidance of MSC students.
