Avans University of Applied Sciences in Breda asked me in 2009 to give a few lectures on security in the recently started curriculum of the School of Security and Governance. These 'few lectures' as freelancer grew gradually as time went by. Starting September 2011, I am employed as a regular lecturer. As coordinator of the 4th-years students, I congratulate all Ba-graduates of our school and praise my colleagues with their success in helping them reaching their achievements. As of October 4, 2013, our school is fully accredited according to European standards. I am very proud to be in the team that reached this milestone. On leaving Avans on April 1, 2015, I thank my students for attending by lectures and thank my teammates for putting up with me. Thank you very much.

After 36 years serving in the R NL Navy, and retired as CAPT-navy, I was requested to join the Netherlands Defence Academy as an associate professor in naval strategy and maritime operations. Now, 7 year later, I thank my colleagues for having me there, thank my student midshipmen and cadets for listening. I am grateful to have witnessed the accreditation of War Studies to university level.
