About Wow Science Camp

Wow Science is an educational enrichment program that features fun, hands-on science experiments and projects, activity-based math, educational LEGO activities, programming, coding, review of STEM careers, exploration of the intersection of art and science, money management and etiquette lessons, and thrilling weekly field trips. Children in K-12 are eligible to participate in our programs. Our mission is to spark, cultivate and promote children's interest in STEM. We offer our programs through summer camps, afterschool, and Saturday Science programs. We partner with schools and daycare centers to bring our program to their systems. Our Key Objectives: Promote children's interest in science. A recent Bayer-sponsored study added to evidence that children can develop a lifelong interest in science at a very young age (Jemison, Mae C. 2010). Wow Science presents science, technology, engineering and math in a manner that piques and nurtures children's interest. Reinforce classroom learning. A meta-analysis of 39 studies concluded that summer learning loss equaled at least one month of instruction during a regular school year (Cooper, H. et al. 1996). This loss is particularly pronounced in math, science, and other subjects that involve the acquisition of "factual and procedural knowledge". Our program is designed to reinforce classroom learning and promote retention through fun, hands-on science projects, math lessons and simulations, and educational games. Expose children to career options in science. This portion of the program is designed to help students understand that successful STEM professionals were once normal, unassuming children. Scientists from various backgrounds are invited to speak with campers on how they entered their fields. They provide guidance, encouragement, and help campers to understand that a successful science career is within their reach.Visit us at www.wowsciencecamp.org to learn more and support our cause.

Science Camp®, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting children’s interest in science through afterschool and summer programs. Since inception in 2010, more than five hundred children have benefited from the program. In April 2013, in celebration of Women’s History Month, Ms. Adebi was honored with a Proclamation by Camden County, New Jersey, for her role in cultivating children’s interest in science. Ms. Adebi holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from State University of New York at Old Westbury. Her advocacy for building a strong foundation for children in science dates back to her college days. As a young Chemist, she spent her afternoons tutoring children in science and math at the Princeton YMCA. This experience exposed her to the many challenges our children face in their efforts to learn science. It challenged her to seek out avenues to enable more children to excel in science, technology, engineering, and math. In 2001, Ms. Adebi completed a master’s degree in Technology Management at Stevens Institute of Technology. She subsequently resigned her job with Pfizer (formerly Wyeth Pharmaceuticals) and began to pursue, full time, her passion of helping every child embrace science. Ms. Adebi is an active member of the Green Team, a team focused on building a greener, healthier environment in Gloucester Township. She serves as an advisor on the Camden County Women’s Health Conference Committee, the group responsible for organizing an annual conference focused on promoting the health and wellbeing of families. Ms. Adebi constantly seeks and welcomes opportunities to cultivate children’s interest in STEM. Show less
