Small business and entrepreneurship development...My office, BERO, is housed within the TNECD. BERO is the lead advocate for economic inclusion of disadvantaged business enterprises (DBEs) in Tennessee, and focuses on the analysis, dissemination and promotion of best practices and access to capital for DBEs to service providers. In addition, BERO reports on behalf of DBEs to the Governor and General Assembly. I've have had multiple roles working on behalf of DBEs statewide as well as in the southeastern U.S. and internationally including: - development and coordination of programs, conferences and events; - spearheading government grants to promote rural entrepreneurship and international trade; - managing a microloan and various grant programs; - fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships. I draw from domestic and international small business ownership and work in the non-profit field. Note: For the purposes of BERO, DBE refers to businesses owned by women, minorities, veterans and persons with disabilities; as well as businesses operating in areas of low income and high unemployment in the state.
