I am a post-doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law. My current project examines how individual and situational factors influence criminal decision-making in the context of burglary. Specifically, using novel virtual reality methodologies in a sample of incarcerated offenders I examine how environmental cues that signal risk (e.g., an alarm system) or reward (e.g., an expensive car in the driveway) influence target selection at the house and neighborhood level.

The Cambridge Social Decision-Making Lab (CSDMLab) explores the social and cognitive psychological processes underlying human social judgment, communication, and decision-making. We are particularly interested in the emergence, spread, and influence of social norms in shaping human cooperation and decision-making in real-world social dilemmas.My main responsibilities have included: providing the relevant literature for various projects ongoing within the group; maintaining ethical compliance; designing, pilot-testing, and implementing valid or new measurements for numerous psychological constructs; collecting, managing, and analysing data; and presenting findings or current investigations to other members, policy makers, and other third parties that will be impacted by findings.

For my thesis entitled, "Integrating States, Traits, and a Dual-process Approach with Dcriminal Decision-making Literature: Theoretical and Methodological Advancements" I examined individual differences and situational influences to better understand criminal behavior and decision-making to inform policy. My research included designing, implementing, and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data from large-scale online surveys as well as using innovative Virtual Reality methodologies alongside advanced statistical analyses to contribute to the theory and measurement of criminal behavior and decision-making.

Data analyst for a project that used a game-based intervention to target the spread of COVID-19 misinformation. Primary responsibilities include cleaning, transforming, and analyzing a large scale data set across three countries for publication and dissemination. Main analyses include: standard demographics; uni- and multivariate regressions; and establishing measurement invariance across three countries. Additional responsibilities include writing-up the results of the analysis in an easy to read and understand manner for both expert and non-expert audiences.

I led a team of four PhD candidates through a program evaluation ofa charity in Cambridge, UK that works with at-risk youth. The primary goal was to assess how the program positively influenced the lives of at-risk youth to promote educational and employment attainment, as well as overall positive development. Collectively, we proposed an intricate solution for the charity which included the development of a Theory of Change, a structured literature review, a Gap-Analysis, and per the results - a proposed research plan. We wrote a report and presented our recommendations to the charity in an open format setting that allowed for clarification and feedback, ensuring a clear delivery and satisfied client. The final report is available on request. The report is continously used to obtain external funding for the charity to continute serving its community. I, along one with a other team member, conducted two concept mapping sessions with charity employees to determine the overall methodology and goal(s) of the program. This information guided the literature review and was utilized to develop a Theory of Change. Informed by the concept mapping sessions, I conducted an online survey with members of the organization to determine the perceived overall importance of each methodology or goal. I conducted a gap-analysis to determine if the current program was supported by existing theory and empirical examinations of similar programs. Per the results of the gap-analysis, I worked collectively with other team members to determine a study recommendation. Once a study recommendation was determined, I helped other team members critically research empirically and theoretically founded measurements for each outcome of interest, and myself investigated appropriate research procedures that aligned with resource availability. I wrote a report regarding survey design and analysis and the Gap-analysis, and edited the final full report to ensure it read as coming from one voice.

At the Policy Research Group, we have one simple view: more evidence in policies leads to better population outcomes. To demonstrate this, we look for the best way to carry out high quality research that retains real-life value. As work is carried out, we constantly aim to translate insights into meaningful outputs, engaging with stakeholders and champions throughout. My main responsibilities included: applying for and maintaining ethical compliance for numerous research studies; designing original, novel, and feasible methodology to answer original research questions; collecting, managing, and analyzing large data sets; and assessing, cleaning, and reporting the results of large scale secondary data analysis.

Worked collaboratively with other managers to create work schedules and tutoring schemes to achieve positive academic outcomes for clientele within a timely manner. Held a working knowledge of various teaching techniques to relay appropriate knowledge to students in an effective manner.

Implemented a measure to determine individual levels of empathy before and after treatment. Designed and implemented experimental condition of delay, response, and magnitude of increased artificial empathetic state after treatment. Analysed and summarised data for report and dissemination of information to Roanoke College for future use.

Assigned to 8 incoming freshmen who were admitted to the College on conditional basis. Maintained weekly contact with ‘mentees’ to promote academic and personal adjustment to undergraduate life. Meetings included discussion of life skills such as time management, study skills, and acquiring an internship. Monitored a study hall for 6 hours a week that ‘mentees’ were required to attend. Through dedicated service, reflective listening, and responsible monitoring, all 8 mentees successfully completed their first year of undergraduate studies and were removed from conditional status.

Resident Advisor of an on campus upperclassman residence.Monitored residence building containing 150+ students on a weekly basis. Developed monthly "hall programs" which encouraged resident interaction to not only promote a healthy living environment and create a sense of community, but were used to as a networking opportunity between residents and those within the community.

Maintained multiple calendars for four academic advisers within the department. Organized the facilities required for large scale staff meetings to successfully occur. Welcomed and assisted walk-in students with their daily needs and identified appropriate solutions for more complex and unique problems.

Assisted in on going juvenile probation, monitoring, HEM, drug testing, community service, in home services, social histories, and mentoring. Held a caseload of my own and made executive decisions throughout the monitoring of cases. Accrued approximately 200 hours between my office, the courtroom, schools, homes, and employment locations of juveniles. Additionally, in conjecture with my criminal justice degree, I carried out an independent research study that resulted in the development of a risk-analysis measurement for identifying high, medium, and low risk juvenile offenders.
