Graduate Research AssistantPurdue University Aug 2009 - Dec 2010"Cost-Effective Data Collection to Support INDOT's Mission" with Jon D. Fricker, Ph.D.: I worked with numerous faculties to analyze ways to reduce the expenditures for INDOT without reducing safety and while still meeting federal regulations.“An Assessment of Alternative Intervals for Bridge Inspection Interval Frequency: A Framework and Case Study involving 24- and 48-Month Intervals” with Jon Fricker, Rob Connor, and Sam Labi: I chose to advance the idea of using a 48-month inspection interval for bridges good condition or better. I used econometric modeling to show that using the extended interval for bridges in good condition leads to no reduction in safety. This extended interval would allow the DOT to evaluate bridges in poor condition more closely and lead to more safety.“Estimating Long Term Impacts of Sustainable Energy Projects on Local Roads” with John E. Haddock, Ph.D., P.E and Jon D. Fricker, Ph.D.: I used Excel to develop a workbook that allows rural country engineers to estimate the cost of reconstructing county roads for sustainable energy projects. The standard AASHTO design guide was used for the ethanol and biomass plants while the design for wind farms was based on Asphalt Institute’s manual Thickness Design: Asphalt Pavements for Heavy Wheel Loads (21). The workbook was created to be as simple and user friendly as possible. -
