I believe compliance is an outcome of good process and workflow design. Compliance should be invisible to the layperson, facilitating to the productive person, and plain annoying and disruptive to bad actors. I view compliance requirements, especially when new ones come along, as workflow improvement opportunities, and through this view I have had success in designing and managing effective compliance and internal controls programs. I love promoting my profession and it is rewarding when I see that “Now I know what you do” light-bulb go off when I am talking to someone about my profession.During my career I have done some pretty cool things:Recently, I designed a compliance program for an $11 billion public pension fund that encompassed procedures for the oversight of its investment department and audit program for its sixteen participating public agency employers.
