I developed a strategy for the trade association's 19-member board and members to withstand the evolving energy transition that threatens the association: Attract, create, educate and excite changemakers — starting with PEI Young Executives (ages 21-45). I pitched the association's first event sponsorship (a conference welcome station) — plus overhauled content and marketing for the PEI Young Executives conference. Attendance exceeded the 2020 goal by 37% — and previous-year attendance by 45.7%. (When you invite industry disruptors to speak, attendance soars.)

I increased the profitability and timely delivery of the PEI Journal by moving international print subscriptions to digital and increasing the advertising ratio from 40-60 to 50-50. My decision saved 14% on production expenses and 65% on postage. This move allowed the association to access digital analytics on international subscriber deliveries and open rates, which better informed our international content development.

Media company with 150 trade publications and 40+ conferences on 6 continents (6 in U.S. top 240)• Powergrid International (a global monthly magazine for smart grid engineers with a 44,000 circulation)• Electric Light & Power (a bimonthly power-generation magazine for North American utility execs with a 21,000 circulation)I achieved international brand recognition by explaining complex energy concepts and effects simply as a journalist, spokesperson, panelist, moderator, CEO's speech writer and news anchor. I also developed from the ground up and led, as the face of PennWell, the Electric Light & Power Executive Conference for CEOs of investor-owned utilities. With a $200K budget, my team and I drew 100+ C-level attendees. Revenue was 10% registration and 90% sponsorships from major global corporations including Accenture, Oracle, Microsoft and ABB. In addition, I served as the No. 2 person for DistribuTECH International, the world’s No. 1 annual electric grid show. It has a $7M budget, 100+ education sessions, 600+ exhibitors and 13,000 attendees from 81 countries. During my leadership, DistribuTECH was one of 26 trade events chosen to participate in the U.S. Department of Commerce International Buyer Program. I also helped fast-track DistribuTECH exhibitors' expansions into Brazil by partnering with the Commerce Department to develop and host a webinar on how to meet Brazil's difficult requirements for market entry. Weekly community newspaper with a 2,800 circulationAs a cub reporter, I used diplomacy to engage industry veterans and transform my hometown paper. Within one year, we won the award for best newspaper in the state. I also organized and led a workshop to teach and replicate best practices in innovative journalism across 13 regional newspapers.
