I’ve been lucky enough to live and work in Britain and other countries, and I’ve spent many years teaching English to different types of people for many different purposes. A big part of teaching was analysing my students’ mistakes to identify those particular areas of difficulty that were causing the problems. Over the years, I have become very good at spotting errors in students’ work. But even in my everyday life, I find myself noticing every misspelt restaurant menu or shop sign with dodgy apostrophes. I like to think of it as my superpower, but not everyone around me is so sure. Just as the Hulk has to control his anger and Gremlins should avoid getting wet, I have to stop myself from getting too carried away, sometimes!Fortunately, my training as a proofreader and editor combines this superpower with my English teaching skills and experience, and now I’m ready to save the planet! But that’s probably exhausting, and to be honest, I’m much happier making sure my clients’ business communications are clear, concise, and accurate, and that they convey the intended message successfully.
