This role includes technical, supervisory, relationship building, and business development responsibilities related to ecology and planning studies with Indigenous community clients. Examples of these studies include the following:o Restoration plans, land stewardship plans, watershed plans, and other planning-relatedprojects.o Terrestrial ecosystem mapping and vegetation inventory data collection.o Indigenous ecological knowledge studies.

This role was a continuation and promotion of my previous responsibilities and team from IBA Braiding. I continued previous client work while helping a former client, now shareholder, start up this First Nation owned economic development group. Seeing that this role was better filled by a professional geographically closer to the new shareholder, I recruited and trained a talented replacement before moving to a new role.

⬝ Leads environmental assessment and ecological technical reviews on behalf of Indigenous clients, linking ecological science with Indigenous knowledge and priorities to provide policy-relevant commentary.⬝ Coordinates and leads field studies, including ecological due diligence for various projects, including biophysical inventory (e.g., plant and wildlife identification) and delineation of natural features.⬝ Monitors project activities within client's territories to make recommendations to leadership on environmental impacts and potential ecological protection/restoration opportunities.

⬝ Provided guidance and interpretation of ecological science pertaining to the planning process to ensure that evidence-based recommendations complied with applicable policy requirements. ⬝ Managed projects, led GIS analyses, reporting, and independently performed aquatic and terrestrial field inventories for clients in the public and private sectors, including Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), First Nations, McMaster University, and municipalities.⬝ Championed more equitable and conservation-minded work by forming collaborative relationships with Indigenous consultants, nonprofit organizations, and independent ecologists.

⬝ Worked with diverse community groups to ensure that they understood the municipal planning process and how to include their priorities surrounding urban sustainability in the City’s direction.⬝ Meticulously managed outreach and research initiatives under several grants and contracts to ensure that all deliverables were met in close collaboration with community volunteers. ⬝ Led mapping and analyses to ensure that data was represented in a comprehensive and informative manner that facilitated the sharing of community priorities and quantitative environmental data.⬝ Attended Indigenous partnership training at the Royal Botanical Gardens that enhanced my knowledge of appropriate partnership approaches, and of applicable Treaty and Wampum agreements.

Courses Taught: PLAN 453-Urban Stormwater Management, ENVS 200–Field Ecology.Graded assessments efficiently and accurately, ran laboratories and tutorials, and supervised test writing to ensure academic integrity.

⬝ Implemented excellent organization and leadership skills to successfully create a community science water level monitoring program in the UNESCO Georgian Bay Biosphere (Mnidoo Gamii).⬝ Meticulously collected ecohydrological data in a variety of peat-dominated ecosystems with partners that included First Nations, Provincial Parks, community organizations, and businesses.⬝ Continued collaboration to present day, now applying technical writing skills to prepare a manuscript.
