For an introduction to my work, please see https://tending.to/garden. .I have 40 years of experience working with government, INGOs, universities, and the IT sector in Europe, North America and Asia. This includes leadership and management roles for projects ranging from small research clusters through global network initiatives up to small universities. As a research leader, I am at my best building teams to work on inter- or trans- disciplinary problems that span the natural and social sciences, often with a strong element of environmental or social justice. For many years, I have collaborated with Indigenous experts on questions of local knowledge in ecology, medicine, ritual, and philosophy, and I continue to work on a knotty cluster of problems around how diverse communities interact around sacred sites to create unusually biodiverse landscapes. Through a process of learning within my own family, I now also work on questions of autism, ecology, dis/ability, and bio/diversity. I will not waste my time debating the seriousness of the ecological/political/economic crisis that our planet is now experiencing; as a a species, we have allowed a small number of individuals to endanger all life on the planet. Accordingly, we are now at the beginning of a long, turbulent, and necessary downsizing. The only real question is how to build tools and strategies that are based in rigorous research, methodologically critical, environmentally just, and nonetheless inspiring and constructive.I am available to work for organisations, either on a project basis or a longer-term relationship, that are working for the good of all life, in whatever particular way they choose.Disciplines: anthropology, ecology, ethnobiology, Asian studies, disability studies, history, Buddhism.Experienced international manager.Working languages: English, Nepali, Newari (classical and modern), Sanskrit, Spanish; working competence that varies with use in French, German, Tibetan, Pali, Bangla; perpetually learning Mandarin.Experienced lecturer and trainer in government, academia, business, and INGOs. Highly computer literate (networks, Linux, Python, Postgres/GIS, some Haskell and Lisp).
