• PI: Distinguished Prof Rong Li, Director, Mechanobiology Institute• Supervisor: Dr Wu Hongyi & Mr Cui Hongyue• Project Title: Investigating the Effects of Mechanical Trauma on Protein Aggregation.• Project Summary: Neurodegenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), are characterized by accumulation of protein aggregates in the nervous system. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a dubious predisposing factor to ALS but whether and how TBI causes protein aggregation is unknown. We aim to investigate the impact of TBI on protein homeostasis (proteostasis) using mechanobiology and bioimaging methods.

Recent discoveries of aggregate-organelle interactions (AOI) in our and other labs provided a link between them. We aim to further unravel the mechanisms and physiological/pathological consequences of AOI using combined genetic, biochemical and bioimaging methods.

• Project Title: Genomics meets Big Data – Interactive Database and Analytics• PI: Assoc Prof Eric Yap• Investigated the diversity, prevalence, and evolution of antimicrobial resistant genes in clinically important pathogenic bacteria using microbiological and molecular techniques.• Developed an automated pipeline to collect, transform, characterise, analyse, and visualise genomic datasets to understand antibiotic resistance in clinically important pathogenic bacteria.• Genomic data was collated from bioinformatics databases such as NCBI Genome & NCBI PathogenDetection, transformed using Microsoft Power Query and GALAXY, characterised using PubMLST, visualised using Microsoft Power BI, and automated using Microsoft Power Automate.
