I am a compassionate, amiable, and determined Doctor of Physical Therapy student who is striving to create a difference in future patient care. Striving for meaningful change requires extensive, diligent work to build skill sets to make a difference in the profession of physical therapy. Since high school, I have always had a strong interest in sports and sports-related injuries. I received my undergraduate education at Purdue University, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology. Following graduation and before enrolling in the DPT Program at Indiana Wesleyan University, I worked as a rehabilitation tech at a hospital working alongside physical, occupational, wound, and speech therapists. I’m captivated by the role of specializing in orthopedic practice. My enthusiasm lies within an orthopedic setting, where I can dedicate myself to rehabilitating patients, ultimately enhancing their daily lives. My experience as a technician has allowed me to assist physical therapists in helping patients gain mobility, function, and return to a preferred activity or sport, all while showing compassion for patients and passion for the occupation. My cohort classmates describe me as humorous, energetic, and helpful. I strive to be flexible, but assertive in my approach to providing clinical care to patients. The core values of the APTA resonate strongly with my ideals and I strive to lead by example, exemplifying integrity, respect, and excellence. With my experience as a rehab tech, I have acknowledged areas of potential personal growth including creativity and direct communication, and, in my DPT Program, I have worked on gaining knowledge and manual skills to succeed as a competent physical therapist. I am ready and eager to begin my career where I can build on a foundation among physical therapists who share my vision, values, and passion for the physical therapy profession.The mentors and faculty in the DPT program at Indiana Wesleyan University are best preparing me for the growing, forever-changing profession with client-centered care at the helm. I am sincerely excited for the future endeavors my life will bring me as I continue my education and build the hefty skill set required to make a difference as a future physical therapist!
