Senior Tissue Engineer
At BE Therapeutics, I am working on integrating human neuronal precursor cells into novel vascularized biomaterial matrices to create grafts that can restore function to damaged areas of the brain. I also am exploring novel ways to study and characterize the mechanical and structural aspects of cell-laden biomaterial implants.
Special Volunteer
As a Special Volunteer at the NIH, I am advising researchers on how to utilize the novel "apical in" human retinal organoids our lab developed in new applications, such as in optic nerve regeneration models. I am also continuing to write and complete publications related to my research at the NEI as a Postdoctoral Fellow.

I applied biomaterial science and tissue engineering techniques to the development of retinal organoids. My goal was to develop organoids with more mature and natural photoreceptor physiology and functionality than organoids created using conventional methods. To this end, I created several protocols that utilized biomaterials to reconfigure the human retinal organoid model from an "apical out" configuration to an "apical in" configuration in order to bring RPE and nascent photoreceptors into an appositional relationship.
