Co-FounderThe Fuller Project 2014 - PresentWashington, D.C., UsThe Fuller Project is the global nonprofit newsroom dedicated to groundbreaking reporting to catalyze positive change for women. I cofounded this organization from Istanbul in 2014 and then as CEO I shaped the vision, recruited and supported a talented team, and raised funds to fuel outcomes. In January 2024, I stepped down and was succeeded by Laurie Hays, our current Editor in Chief and CEO. Since we launched in 2015, our reporting has influenced new legislation, helped end life-threatening practices, and led to large scale releases of public data. For example, our investigations have led to increased funding for maternal health care, helped rescue migrant domestic workers held against their will, prompted a major fashion brand to end abuse at their garment factory, introduced legislation to ban virginity testing, and fueled policy changes on the minimum wage for tipped workers. The Fuller Project reports exclusive stories centered on women that otherwise would not be told. The long-standing focus on women, especially those facing racial or other forms of bias, because journalism that by challenging conventional thinking inspires action. The Fuller Project spotlights critical issues and expose injustice with in-depth reporting published in renowned news outlets such as The New York Times, The Washington Post and Foreign Policy, and inside the largest and most respected newsrooms around the world from Afghanistan to India to Kenya. The reporting is relied on by policymakers, corporate leaders, influencers and individuals across the globe, leading to better outcomes for women and their communities. As women’s standing in society improves, so does the potential for stronger democracies, and economic and political stability. A single authoritative story about women can create awareness to spark change. -

Executive Director, Founder, Board Chair EmeritusAge Africa: Advancing Girls' Education 2005 - 2015Washington, UsI founded this nonprofit in 2005 after reporting for a year for the Christian Science Monitor on Malawian girls who weren't going to school. Readers sent hundreds of letters and pledges, and I started a fund to help. I built this organization with the help of many friends and colleagues in Malawi and especially with partnership from the Government of Malawi and the Ambassador in DC. We've served 3000 girls and during COVID the organization leveraged radio to support the girls while out of school. My proudest moments were transitioning the nonprofit from my leadership to that of my colleagues and seeing it become truly sustainable and shared by a large community, and of course seeing the successes of our incredible scholars. I was the chief fundraiser while serving as ED, during which time I launched and led our Olympic-distance triathlon racing team which included 60 athletes and raised six figure amounts annually. Proud to say that Michelle Obama, Melinda French Gates, and Amal Clooney recently visited the program in Malawi. AGE Africa is also a grantee of the Opportunity Alliance led by the Obama Foundation and others. -
Associate Director And Associate Fellow, Center For Universal EducationThe Brookings Institution 2012 - 2014Washington, Dc, UsAs the deputy of this center, I helped grow the center to 3x size and managed all executive functions including fundraising, personnel, budget, and large-scale communications as a part of our public-facing efforts. As a fellow I led and edited research projects and presided over public events. I built up and led an international fellows program for women leaders from Africa, India and beyond, and mentored them in publishing. I advised 60 grantmakers in global education through a network that I facilitated. I led research on girls' education, editing a volume written by the fellows I mentored. I pioneered partnerships, including with Brookings India, and personally welcomed heads of state and ministries from African countries and convened funders to support their education plans. -
