Develop real-time software for protocols, algorithms, and products using C/C++, and learn communication systems and protocols from the inside out. Develop management and control platforms using Java/J2EE and the latest web based frameworks Research, design, and test system solutions for algorithms and protocols in small teams with engineers and learn how to make applications perform optimally over IP based wireless networks. My first couple months at Hughes were dedicated to performance testing of a web caching proxy called Squid. I had to diligently record web page response times in order to develop detailed reports that outlined the pros and cons of running a caching proxy on a severely resource limited VSAT modem. During this time I also contributed to maintaining a large scale web acceleration application by completing bug fixes and various small software enhancements. After the first couple months, I joined a team tasked with developing a software application that my company was contracted to complete in the realm of satellite resource management. I was involved from Design, Development, and ultimately maintenance/support. Development utilized J2EE in conjunction with MySQL, and was deployed with JBoss EAP. I had little to no knowledge of these technologies before joining the team and I was able to quickly learn them and become an extremely meaningful contributor to producing a solid, robust, and resilient application. My efforts were focused towards configuration management, REST/servlet interface, and most notably implementing the core algorithmic aspect of the application.
