I have the honor of leading a catalytic company that brings corporations, private foundations, nonprofits, and associations into a deeper understanding, greater impact, and increased relevance for our 21st Century. I oversaw the Social Innovation and Philanthropy strategy for the University Community Service Center at the University of Chicago. In this capacity, I was responsible for developing partnerships and programs alongside other UChicago departments and staff to find innovative new/growth strategies and ways of thinking about how social services models are developed, funded, and measured for impact. Additionally, I managed several student-to-community focused programs that serve to enrich the undergraduate and graduate academic experience through exploration and involvement in the social services industry.

I was responsible for managing a $4m portfolio of approximately 60 nonprofit agencies, focusing upon workforce development and financial stability efforts to reach a goal of improving the financial stability of 100,000 households across the 5 county reigion by 2020. Additionally, I served as the issue area expert at United Way for their Live United 2020 Income work. In this capacity, I collaborated to bring my expertise and knowledge to the field of community investment, leveraging the United Way banner to improve the capacity, efforts, and outcomes of direct service nonprofits that we funded. Working with the City Treasurer, major corporations, local elected officials, and fellow funders, our Community Investment team propelled the Impact Areas of Education, Income and Health forward through creative special projects, convening stakeholders, best practice research, and allocating intellectual and financial resources throughout our community.

My responsibilities included ensuring that the organizational operating budget is maintained, directing a $1.5 million capital campaign, teaching a Spanish course for high school students, assisting with the development of our College and Career Campus for community stabilization and sustainability, developing and tracking obtainable outcomes for our youth programs while maintaining funding for their operations, maintaining the public image of our company, developing and implementing a strategic marketing campaign, being a mentor and role model for roughly 75 African American youth, and creating infrastructural systems to manage our organizational capacity and expansions.

UZIMA Foundation is an NGO located in Nairobi, Kenya where I spearheaded the development of a new and updated fundraising strategy, created a marketing strategy to bring the organization into the social marketing sphere and create a more robust presence online, and I assisted the executive staff and board of directors to reframe their mission and tie it to their programs in a format that streamlines, as well as enhances, grantwriting and information dissemination.
