Xin Chen is currently the Head of People Science Solutions Lab at Amazon People eXperience Technology (PXT, aka Human Resources) Central Science. Xin leads a team of applied scientists to build production grade science solutions using economics, behavioral science, statistics, and machine learning to proactively identify and launch mechanisms and process improvements that simultaneously improve Amazon and the lives, well-being of, and value of work to Amazonians.Before joining Amazon PXT, Xin was the head of the Central US, Greater China Region, LATAM and the Automotive Vertical in the AWS Machine Learning Solutions Lab. He led his teams across three continents to help AWS customers identify and build machine learning solutions to address their organization’s highest return-on-investment machine learning opportunities. Prior to Amazon, Xin was a Director of Engineering at HERE Technologies. Xin’s team completed pioneering work to achieve the automation of next generation map creation using computer vision and machine learning technologies. His work on High Definition (HD) mapping for automated driving resulted in production of half million kilometers of high way HD map used in BMW and Daimler production vehicles. Xin has over 70 U.S. patents in AI. He has numerous publications at CVPR, CVIU, ICLR, IEEE proceedings and IEEE Transactions on ITS. He has served on an NSF (National Science Foundation) panel multiple times to evaluate and award funding to multi-million dollar projects advancing AI research.On the academic front, Xin has managed computer vision research collaborations with academic teams including Carnegie Mellon U., Columbia U. and the U. of Notre Dame. Xin is an adjunct professor and PhD advisor at Northwestern U. and Illinois Institute of Technology, teaching “Geospatial Vision and Visualization” and “Biometrics” courses. Xin is a frequent public speaker on AI and has served as a program chair for several premium international conferences such as CVPR and ACM SIGSPATIAL.
