About Xavier De Carvalho

I lead the Data and Media divisions at AKQA Performance. I've previously worked at NXT\ Digital Innovation (Head of Media), Freshive (Digital Operations Manager), and Platform5 (now AKQA) – where my duties have ranged from leading a department, helping in Project Office with traffic management, or even handling the Digital Marketing efforts for some of the worlds most recognizable brands. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with a variety of brands and businesses to help them reach their digital objectives, and have had lots of fun learning and collaborating with them. It’s always rewarding to see hard work translate into meaningful results.I've also previously been involved with a large esports community - RaceDepartment - and was lucky enough to work on a range of fun and interesting projects with them.I’m truly passionate about my work and am always eager to connect with others who share similar roles in the industry. While I enjoy all aspects of my job, my favourite stage of a project is sitting down with the client or business unit leader along with my team to understand their business objectives and help them define a winning strategy to reach their objectives. As we go through that collaborative process, the ideas start to flow and that’s always the fun part.I'm constantly looking to expand my knowledge though and am always looking for any learning opportunities which would give me a leading edge in my field.I’m always interested in hearing from former school or work colleagues, managers, or just interesting creatively minded people, so feel free to contact me if you’d like to connect.

Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Music, Social Networking, Remixing, and 67 others.

Data And Tech Lead

Bryanston, Guateng, Za

**Platform5 merged with AKQA.**Becoming Data and Tech Lead felt like entering an engine room of innovation. My background in social, operations, and paid media prepared me to tackle the challenge of leveraging data and technology to totally overhaul how we delivered value and performance for our clients. My role was no longer about about managing campaigns. It was about pioneering new digital solutions, and my team were trusted problem-solvers, developing bespoke and innovative technologies to address client needs in marketing and measurement.A key initiative was building a CDP and a DMP from scratch. We created a tailored system to handle vast data, provide actionable insights, and drive strategic decisions. We integrated machine learning to predict customer behavior and enable personalization across media channels and web platforms - accurately marrying a user's personal ad experience with their digital brand experience for the first time - increasing content relevance, creating a single-threaded experience across platforms, and driving significant performance as a result.Internally, I fostered a culture of innovation and continuous learning, dedicating time to R&D and exploring emerging technologies. We emphasized efficient and effective Data Strategy and Analysis practices, helping to ensure our clients had fast access to data and meaningful insights for decision making. This role differed from previous ones by shifting from optimization to creation. It was about inventing and transforming. Building technologies that redefined possibilities. This journey profoundly impacted my view of technology's role in business, teaching me that true innovation comes from challenging the status quo and building what doesn't exist. This wasn't just a career step. It was a leap into a new realm of possibility.
