About Xiaochen Sun

I am a Research Assistant and a PhD Candidate at RMIT University, with a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering. I have a strong background and interest in additive manufacturing, materials engineering, and mechatronics, and I am proficient in CAD design, mechanical testing, NDI and NDT for polymeric and metal parts, FEA/CFD, As a Research Assistant, I worked on several research projects, where I performed CT scanning, microscopic data acquisition and analysis for fractal burner applications. As a PhD Candidate, I looked at the toolpath design and porosity analysis of the material extrusion (MEX) additively manufactured parts, aiming to improve the quality and performance of the products. As a Teaching Assistant and Lab Demonstrator, I support the learning and assessment of undergraduate students in various engineering courses, such as Advanced Manufacturing and Mechatronics, Materials Engineering, and Automatic Control Systems. As a researcher, I have published and co-authored in a prestigious peer-reviewed journal, an industry 4.0 strategy white book, and an AM textbook. I am passionate about advancing the knowledge and practice of additive manufacturing, and I enjoy working with and learning from diverse and talented teams of researchers, educators, and students.
