Thesis topic: Design for Reliability and Security of Networked Dynamic Systems• Design for Reliability:1) Extended previous research results on the minimal cost design to ensure system monitoring and addressed the problem of placing the optimal set of sensors that ensure reliable system monitoring under disruptive scenarios like component failures. Adopted control theory, graph theory and integer optimization approach.2) Addressed the problem of placing the optimal set of sensors for target or partial observability to reduce sensing cost, in contrast to previous research results which ensure system monitoring for the whole system. Used control theory, graph theory and integer optimization approach.• Design for Security:1) Using graph theory, improved current work which characterized the resiliency of networked dynamical systems for all feasible sets of malicious nodes by greatly reducing the computation complexity. 2) Proposed the design of the systems ensuring resilience to cyber attacks, which differed from previous research results which considered the resiliency of systems from the perspective of analysis. Applied graph theory tool and integer optimization approach.• Validated some of the results using benchmark systems and real-world data sets, and studied the runtime of the algorithms in Matlab. Results confirmed the correctness of the algorithms and their complexity.
