About Dr. Xiomara Romine, Edd

I’m passionate about the ways human-centered design can inspire people to have a positive, real-world impact. My past experience as an education specialist managing teams lends me the ability to communicate effectively and oversee both products and services. Through UX/UI, graphic design, storytelling and design thinking, I collaborate with clients to develop thoughtful user experiences. I hold my doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Leadership and Learning. My dissertation research focused on teacher diversity belief typologies and the development of an original typology assessment tool. I have over two decades of education experience, thirteen of which were spent teaching in Fine Arts, Graphic Design & Career Tech before becoming a district level specialist for one of the largest school districts in GA. My educational areas of expertise are CTAE (Career, Technical & Agricultural Education), Art Education, curriculum design, instructional coaching and professional development. I have presented on diversity issues in education, led panel discussions at national conferences and gave a featured Ted Talk at the International Society for Technology in Education.     - Conducted a 5-day modified GV Design Sprint for TinyTales, a iPad/Tablet App containing a library of children’s stories and illustrated books. Parents use the app to read to their young children ages four to nine. - Over the 5 days I focused on understanding the problem, sketching possible solutions, storyboarding the best solution, creating a prototype and testing. The main objective was to make it easier for parents to find great stories that are a good fit for their children. - After conducting usability testing I wrote a case study documenting the process and results.- The goal of providing a way for parents and/or family members to quickly and easily find the right story for their children was achieved. Users found the app to be easy to navigate with clear cut steps. They enjoyed the visual design and that they only had to set up the profile once to get customized suggestions. - Tools used include Adobe XD, Adobe Photoshop, Google Suite, Zoom, Calendly, UI Accessibility Color Checker
