Dr. Xoni Ma has been involved in the field of Environmental Education (EE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) for many years, which he founded Outdoor Wildlife Learning Hong Kong (OWLHK) in 2016, which is a professional environmental education registered charity. Dr. Ma is also one of the very few local EE and ecology researchers, with his research focuses on the utilization of outdoor education for school environmental education, and also terrestrial forest ecology. He is also the part-time Lecturer of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Faculty of Education, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, which he teachs EE in both undergraduarte and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programmes. In order to push the development of Hong Kong environmental education, he focuses his work in four main aspects, including 1. Mainstreaming EE in formal curriculum, 2. Professional development of EE 3. Strengthening EE research and 4. Enhancing interflow in EE and unite the strength of local EE sector.He also coordinated, designed and led different kinds of EE and ESD programmes throughout the years, with targets such as kids, students, corporates, elders, teachers, EE practitioners and the public. With his vast knowledge and experiences, together with his significant effort for pushing the development of EE and ESD in Hong Kong, Dr. Ma has received awards and recognition for his achievements, including the “HKU 2015 Faculty Knowledge Exchange Award”, “Roadshow Ecostar Award 2016” and being the first awardee of “North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) EE 30 Under 30” in Hong Kong. Dr. Ma is keen on applying his professional knowledge and experiences in community services. He has been invited to being a Member in several government’s advisory committee and to provide suggestions for local environmental conservation and education. That includes the , which is the government's principal advisory body on matters relating to environmental protection and conservation, the and the . Apart from local conservation and environmental education, Dr. Ma has involved in international level, including invited by the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership Secretariat, being the International Expert for reviewing the draft resolution on Wetland Education for the .
