NSF. Conduct numerical analyses of the impact of settlement and seismic loading on prototype landfill systems to identify conditions that are a threat to the integrity of the liner system. The integrity assessment involved developing FLAC 2D model with geosynthetic beam elements for prediction of both static settlement and seismic-induced stresses and strains in liners, and conduct numerical calibration of the dynamic properties by a one-dimensional software SHAKE2000.Stability Analysis of a Geosynthetic-reinforced Soil Slope. Conduct numerical calculations with a FEM software, SLIDE 6.0, to evaluate the stability of a geotextile-reinforced soil slope. The analyses involved estimation of critical slip surface and prediction of forces in geotextile.Seismic Deformation Analysis on a Heap Leach Facility. In collaboration with MWH, responsible for performing linear seismic response analysis using SHAKE2000, and developing FLAC 2D model for dynamic stability assessment.
