About Sun Xueliang

I'm a graduate student in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the Washington State University. I graduated with a Ph.D. degree in May 2018I'm actively seeking internship or full-time position in software engineer, electrical engineer or data mining now. My undergraduate study integrated Computer Science (Programming, Algorithms, Software Development, Computer Network), Electrical Engineering (Image Processing, Communication System, Chip Design), and basics of Math, Physics.My graduate study focuses on Computer Science (Software Engineering, Machine Learning, System Programming, Network Security), Electrical Engineering (Data Analysis, Estimation, Signal Processing, Channel Coding), and Statistics (Experimental Design, Linear Model Analysis).My academic research area is Machine Learning, Complex Algorithms, System Design, and Signal Processing on magnetic recording.My individual projects are mostly about Software Engineering on game design.My working language is C/C++/MATLAB with more than 7-year experience, I also have working knowledge with many other commonly used languages (C#, MySQL, Java and Python), multiple platforms (Android, Unity3D) and find no trouble switching to them (or new language) quickly. I use MATLAB or SAS quite often for mathematical or statistical computation as well, and I’m now learning by myself (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).     The research is on Two-Dimensional Magnetic Recording (TDMR) for next-generation hard disk drives.The objective is to increase information density and storage capacity.- Built and tested a system with reader signal as input and user data as output.- Analyzed the grain and reader characteristics and modeled them.- Utilized a machine learning approach called Generalized Belief Propagation(GBP); combined separate mini-cell grain nuclei configurations by message passing algorithm to obtain an estimate of the global grain image.- Implemented complex algorithms for computing channel capacity for 2-dimensional interference.- Based on big data analysis, created a novel and potent TDMR detector using local area probabilistic estimation called Y-effect detector; trained the probabilistic model through Monte-Carlo simulation to estimate the grain's effect on its adjacent bit cells; achieved an order-of-magnitude reduction in Bit Error Rate (BER).Pulished 2 journal papers in IEEE Transactions on Magnetics.
