Conducted CFD modeling using StarCCM+ for SBIR/STTR projects. Mainly involved with process modeling for advanced manufacturing processes, e.g., liquid composite molding, friction stir welding/deposition, and laser powder bed fusion.

Maintained a large CFD code in Fortran. Responsibilities are: documentation, verification, debugging, optimization, and modifications of subroutines.Implemented Level-Set Method, Ghost Fluid Method, and Discrete Element Method to enable multiphase (free-interface) flow and fluid-solid interaction.Developed a multi-physics model for laser-based manufacturing. Physics includes: melting/solidification, surface tension/Marangoni effects, laser absorption, interface instability, and Lagrangian powder motion.Synthesized results from high-speed X-ray imaging and multi-physics simulation to quantify the thermal-fluid and powder dynamics in metal 3D printing and laser welding.Developed a cellular automata model to simulate the grain nucleation and growth in metal 3D printing. Identified nucleation conditions that control the grain structure being equiaxed or columnar.
