As Senior Managing Counsel, Commercial & Privacy, I lead the Commercial Legal team and oversee all aspects of commercial transactions, marketing and GTM activities within the company. My role involves providing strategic legal guidance and collaborating closely with senior leadership to support key business initiatives. In this role, I support executive and senior teams within the revenue organization companywide, which includes drafting, providing strategic legal advice, and leading negotiations regarding in and outbound commercial transactions, NDAs, and technology service/partnership agreements. I also mentor and coach a legal team comprised of a legal operations manager and attorneys to review, negotiate, and execute order forms and master service agreements, partnership agreements, data processing addendums, and other commercial contracts. Some achievements include: ➥ Successfully reviewing and negotiating 260+ commercial inbound and outbound contracts per quarter, including the largest deals the company had since its inception.➥ Streamlining contract negotiation processes/approvals and optimizing the contract management system (CLM) by creating and implementing a new process of standardized legal templates and playbooks to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance which helped the business exceed quarterly goals➥ Mitigating risk by conducting assessments and providing legal guidance to product, engineering, and data security teams to ensure compliance with the GDPR, CPRA, and other data protection, data privacy, and upcoming Artificial Intelligence (AI) regulations.➥ Optimizing legal team performance and supported professional development by training, coaching, and mentoring junior attorneys and support staff with emphatic leadership style

In this position, I served as the right-hand senior attorney to our General Counsel. I led regulatory compliance processes for product recalls in the US, Canada, and Europe while supporting marketing, revenue, and product teams. Some highlights include: ➥ Receiving 100% positive feedback from executive leadership after continuously taking on additional responsibilities and effectively managing a drastic increase in workload.➥ Accurately reviewing 600+ annual in and outbound contracts while serving as escalation Subject Matter Expert (SME) for junior attorneys.➥ Successfully executing 350+ trademark filings globally in collaboration with outside counsel and secured registrations of key trademarks including the company logo.➥ Protecting the brand and company reputation and ensuring confidentiality by expediting the resolution of complex and visible litigation in only five months and working with regulatory agencies to successfully close investigations and avoid penalties and disciplinary action.

In this role, I advised C-suite executives and worked cross-functionally with business team leaders to play an integral role in product, operations, sales, marketing, and technology plans. I drafted, reviewed, and negotiated contracts with corporate partners including technology, professional services, and confidentiality agreements. I also managed consumer claims and litigation and advised on product safety including warnings, regulatory notices, and operational manuals. Some accomplishments include: ➥ Being promoted twice within 15 months, from corporate counsel to senior to principal corporate counsel, and gained respect from the executive team as both a trusted businessperson and legal advisor to handle high-profile litigations and product recalls.➥ Minimizing liability risk and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations including GDPR and CCPA by overseeing Data Subject Requests (DSR), serving on the Safety, Quality, Regulatory, and Compliance (SQRC) task force, and acting as primary legal contact for the product recall management team.➥ Mitigating the effect of security breaches by responding to cybersecurity incidents as a founding member of the Infosec committee.➥ Ensuring all new products, marketing materials, and brand assets were protected by managing the trademark and copyright portfolio in collaboration with marketing and product development.➥ Enhancing workforce development and team performance by coaching and mentoring a junior attorney and team members.

I was a key member of a 20-person legal department, the first legal hire in the US, and head of legal matters across North America as well as support for Mexico, Canada, and Europe. I acted as a strategic partner for the Global sales team in commercial matters and compliance while handling US and EU commercial and IP litigation. I was also primary legal advisor for global operations in North America, South America, Europe, and the Middle East and general counsel for U.S. subsidiaries.
