I started as a Microbiologist, spending 7 years to investigate the genetic basis of microbial pathogenesis and drug resistance in various microorganisms, such as Candida albicans, Neisseria gonorrhoea, Neisseria meningitidis and Staphylococcus aureus. Later, I decided to work with a more complex organism, mosquitoes - Aedes aegypti, an insect vector responsible of transmitting debilitating viral diseases such as dengue, Zika, yellow fever and chikungunya worldwide. Currently, I am a Senior Research Officer working in the Product Development and Support team, leading a small team of up to seven multidisciplinary research officers, overseeing end-to-end, eggs to adults, production facility to field release processes. My key deliverables are mosquito egg capsules which are now being released in several countries as well as an automated adult release mechanism, revolutionising the way we deploy mosquitoes at scale, making our technology more accessible and affordable to community at needs.
