Dr. Yael Hellman, Educational Development Administrator in the Inmate Services Bureau Education Based Incarceration (EBI) Unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and author of Learning for Leadership: A Facilitative Approach for Training Leaders (2014, ASTD Press), brings a special expertise in interactive education. She evaluates training programs and policies for effectiveness and compliance with legislative, departmental, and other regulatory agency requirements.She earned her Doctor of Education degree in Institutional Management from Pepperdine University, and draws not only from an academic knowledge of leadership and relational issues, but also from her hands-on experience with human resource management education in both private and public sectors. Her innovative training programs in corrections, executive arts, healthcare, and education continue to serve the greater Los Angeles community. She taught in Woodbury University's Organizational Leadership Bachelor's and Master's degree programs and has chaired its Organizational Leadership Department. Dr. Hellman travels widely to observe varied styles of leadership and enriches her work and scholarship with an appreciation of such diversity. She advances professional relationships between community organizations, educational institutions, department management, and other stakeholders to accomplish each EBI program's goals. As the EBI's Educational Development Administrator she evaluates and mentors providers of its academic, vocational, and life skills programs, ensuring that these offerings reflect the highest standard of in-custody services and--most important--that they consistently fulfill Inmate Services Bureau's mission of facilitating successful community integration of released inmates.
