Research AssistantNorthwestern University Sep 2012 - Jun 2016Evanston, Il, UsPerformance Evaluation of RAP Supported MSE Wall (funded by NE DOT)1. Conducted failure investigation on an MSE Wall supported by Rammed Aggregate Piers (RAP).2. Identified and numerically evaluated the contribution of deep-seated soft clay compression to the excessive settlement of the MSE Wall. 3. Identified the limitations of ground improvement technique such as aggregate/vibro piers in specific ground conditions.Mechanical Behavior of Gassy Silty Sand (funded by NSF)1. Designed and implemented laboratory program to characterize mechanical behavior of gassy silty sand.2. Experimentally validated the application of Terzaghi’s Effective Stress Principle to quasi-saturated soil with degree of saturation higher than 92%.3. Experimentally proved that increasing non-plastic fine content would dramatically counteract the increased cyclic strength gained by air-injection in loose liquefiable sand.4. Experimentally identified the susceptibility of gassy silty sand to collapse under subtle cyclic vibration.
