XING is a leading career-oriented social networking site in Europe. The quality of the Recommender System for job postings has a huge impact on the customer satisfaction. This internship implemented alternative methods to estimate similarity between XING’s job postings. My contributions are:• Used Spark to parse XING’s unstructured job ads dataset in 2015 which contains more than 3 million job postings.• Implemented and trained the Word2Vec, Paragraph2Vec and Word’s Mover Distance models for Natural Language Processing tasks.• Implemented a Python version of the Word’s Mover Distance algorithm.• Built a minimum collaborative filtering Recommender System based on the implemented NLP models and XING’s Users’ interaction logs. The Recommender System reported an 8% increase in F1 score for our implemented models compared with XING’s old model.

This internship project exploited the combination of using Expectation Maximum algorithm and some image registration techniques to realize Coherent Point Drift (CPD) algorithm, which is one of the probabilistic methods in point set registration. The contributions are: 1.Implemented a Python version of the Coherent Point Drift algorithm.2. Optimized the algorithm, achieving a ~10x speed improvement over the existing implementation.
