Researcher In Teleoperated Robotic Surgical System For Minimal Invasive Surgery
Current1. Design mechanical system for the mini da Vinci SurgeryThere are three surgical cannular (a very long aluminum tube with a very small plastic grasper) in the robotic arm, and they need to be operated without interfering each other. Each cannular possesses two types of motions: translation and rotation, and these two motions are independent; namely, the cannular can rotate and translate in the same time. For each cannular set, there are 3 DC motors, a worm gear & rack system and a shaft & bearing system. Some parts are 3-D printed while some are machined from aluminum bars.2. Design precision motion control of the robotic armAll the DC motors are tiny, and all the motions need to be very precise with a pretty high resolution around 0.1mm or 0.1 degree. STM8L051F3 is used as the MCU. Linear motion transducer is used to feedback the translation motion and an encoder is used to feedback rotation. Optimal control is applied to control the motion. Currently, I am implementing Kalman Filter to minimize the noise to have a better performance.
Graduate Teaching Assistant In Modern Control Theory
Current1. Review control theory and introduce practical apply during the lab periodGive a short lecture at the beginning of each lab period to help students to review the theory as well as the procedure throughout the lab. The topics include Servo Control, Mass Flow control, System Identification and line-following robot2. Teach LabVIEW programmingDuring the lab, I teach students how to do the programming in LabVIEW and help them to debug their program
Embedded Software Engineer Internship
1. Develop communication protocol based on Modbus for a motion controller (DSP) using C code in CCSRuiDa has its own communication protocol (called SCI command) between its DSP motion controller and HMI, and I was asked to develop a communication protocol based on Modbus so that SCI command can be kept the same while in the same time its motion controller can communicate with other HMI from other companies under Modbus standard; namely, I helped Ruida to standardize its communication protocol. I wrote C code in CCS and implement it into the main program, and the principle of my code is to decode a Modbus message to be SCI command as well as to encode SCI command to be a Modbus message.2. Design HMI interface using Kinco configuration software based on Modbus ProtocolKinco HMI has its own configuration software and it support Modbus commnunication protocol. I designed several interfaces with multiple functions and they all communicate properly with the motion controller through Modbus protocol and the code I wrote.
Undergraduate Researcher
1. Built Li-ion coin cell batteries using NMC material cathode and lithium anode.2. Simulate the stress propagation in NMC cathode during the charging/discharging cycles using COMSOL li-ion battery module3. Do experiments on the cycled batteries to validate the simulation.
