James had 26 years of experience in the maritime industry. Sailed as a cadet at the age of 21 yrs old, he had obtained his COC and Diploma in Nautical Studies at the age of 24 yrs old. He embarked on a career with Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore after which and was with the Port Operations Control Centre for 6 yrs. James left MPA in 2006 after being awarded an overseas scholarship by Sembawang Shipyard to read maritime operations in the Netherlands. Upon graduation, James returned to Sembawang Shipyard and was designated as a project engineer with the yard's Docking Department. He was promoted to Assistant Dock Master after a year with the department. As Asst. Dock Master, his roles include (but not limited to) docking, undocking of ships and ship handling within yard defined manouvring area. James left Sembawang Shipyard and joined CSL Marine as a Marine Surveyor in 2010.In 2011, he left CSL Marine after being offered the position of Dock Master with the present company he is working with now - STEML. He was promoted to Department Manager in 2015. As DM, besides overseeing safe docking, undocking and carrying out ship movement within yard's defined manouvring area, he also has to ensure the smooth running of the dept daily works, work out Capex/Opex etc. James was also sponsered by his present company for a Master Degree program (MAppSc (Shipyard Operation)) in 2015 and had graduated in 2019.
