My PhD research topic is Radio Frequency Based Wireless Monitoring of Sleep Apnoea Patients. As a part of my PhD project, my role in this design is providing our industry partner with system level solutions and components level designs. At the same time, academic research progress and publications are also essential for me to achieve a PhD degree. The first generation RF-based wireless monitoring system was proposed and the wireless on-body transducer was developed in a component level of 3-lead front-end ECG circuit, amplitude modulation circuit, frequency up-conversion circuit (contains mixer and VCO circuits), 2.4 GHz microwave narrow bandpass filter and 2.4 GHz circular patch antenna. Concept approval has been achieved in 2010 as expected. This design will be further improved and moving to the next generation using the technology of system-on-chip.The designed second generation RF-based wireless system contains the jobs on embedded system design and development (using C language), RS-232 serial communication between MSP430 to PC, configuration/programming on 5.8 GHz transceiver and MSP430 microcontroller, 5.8 GHz circular patch antenna designs, microstrip lowpass and bandpass filter designs and 5.8 GHz signal propagation /penetration test in a body area network (BAN). Some research and development activities have been carried on microwave passive filters using ring, DGS, CMRC, SIR, SRR and CSRR resonators. Beside the hardware prototypes, the achievement (up-to-date) contains 11 international publications including 2 book chapters, 3 international journals and 6 international conference papers.

Department Of Electrical And Computer Systems Engineering, Monash University Mar 2007 - Jun 2012
I like helping people and giving them solutions to resolve their problems. Tutoring and teaching the 3rd year undergraduate subject System Engineering and Reliability Analysis is always my pleasure since I have been tutoring this subject at Monash University for 5 years. Other tutoring subjects are 2nd year subject Analogue Circuit, 4th year subject Advanced Control and some of the undergraduates’ final year design projects.
  • Microwave Millimeter-Wave Ics Lab, Chang Gung University
    Rf Design Engineer
Microwave Millimeter-Wave Ics Lab, Chang Gung University Aug 2011 - May 2012
This is a continuing project collaborated with Chang Gung University (Taiwan). As a RF system engineer, I proposed the system level solution for the wireless power transmission in our wireless monitoring system. I also specified it into the RF circuit designs. The proposed project involves various designs of power amplifiers (classified as Class AB, Class E, Class F, Dorothy and distributed PA), oscillators/VCOs (particularly at Class E, Class F and cross-coupled prototypes). The process applied is 350 nm GaN HEMT, and my designed oscillators have reached a considerably high output power of 38.8 dBm (7.6 Watts) with an efficiency of 75%. The fabricated designs can reach a wireless power transmission range of 1-3 cm. Currently, I am working towards the realisation of this design on wireless monitoring devices for sleep apnoea diagnosis.
